Southbound Adventures is pleased to host the Overland Track Tasmania Program. This program has been designed to provide participants with the opportunity to grow, learn and play in the outdoors in a safe and secure environment. Overview
- The Overland Track is Tasmania’s premier hiking trail, spanning 80km from Cradle Mountain to Lake St. Clair.
- Experience breathtaking alpine heathland and sub-alpine rainforest landscapes.
- Opportunity to summit iconic peaks: Cradle Mountain and Mount Ossa (1,617m).
- Southbound Adventures has offered bespoke Overland Track experiences since 1993.
- Our program covers 65km of the track over 8 days, ideal for students.
- Explore natural history and stunning scenery in a truly unique environment.
- Altitudes range from 800 to 1,617m.
- Ideal hiking season: December to February, with clearer, warmer conditions up to 30°C.
- Snowfall is possible year-round at higher altitudes.
- A moderate level of fitness is recommended; expect to hike up to 15km daily over varied terrain.
- Accommodation: Primarily tents on reserved group camping platforms; private hut on the first night.
- Public huts with basic facilities and fresh water are available at campsites.
- While perfect weather can’t be guaranteed, a unique experience is assured!

Frequently Asked Questions
Parents will be provided with a 24 hour contact number for the allocated Southbound Adventures on-call Manager for the duration of the program. All contact with your son or daughter whilst on program should be directed through our on call representative or any designated school coordinator.
Our wonderful office staff screen participant medical information prior to commencement of the Program. We may contact you with any questions which will help us provide support for the child throughout camp. We regularly cater for a variety of dietary and medical needs and it is our best interest to support all students regardless of any ailments, impairments or other special considerations in their own personal growth whilst on program with us. We treat all information with respect and confidentiality. If your child is Anxious, has Autism, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy or Diabetes, hearing or sight impairments or any other medical or dietary requirement we are here to help.
Southbound Adventures does not take responsibility for loss, damage or theft of any electronic devices brought to the program. Most school’s will prohibit students from bringing electronic devices on camp and encourage students to disconnect from their devices and reconnect with their peers and the wonderful surrounds of camp.
Fire Restrictions mean no open flames are allowed unless permitted by NSW National Parks. In areas in which Southbound Adventures are licensed to work, which have Fire Restrictions, we will not have open wood fires.
A Total Fire Ban means that any activity that involves or is likely to cause a fire is not permitted until the total Fire Ban has been lifted. Groups will be informed by their Program Director the day before if a Total Fire Ban has been issued. Conditions in and around the program area will be continually monitored by Group Leaders, Team Leaders and Directors and also by our 24 hour on call Manager.
Conditions are continuously monitored by the on call Manager, our dedicated office staff and the Program Director. If severe weather occurs, appropriate modifications to the program will be made in order to guarantee participants safety.
